About Timor:

Timor is a 24,000 square kilometer country on the eastern half of an island between Indonesia and Australia. Timor is the World’s newest Democracy and has a population of roughly 800,000 people. Timor lies towards the eastern end of the chain of Indonesian islands running from Malaya, through Sumatra and Java, to New Guinea. The capital of Timor is Dili, located on the northern coast. Timor has had a difficult and violent road to independence. The tiny country was a territory of Portugal until 1975 when Portugal relinquished all of its colonies. The people of Timor enjoyed only a few days of independence before Indonesia invaded and brutally occupied Timor. In 1999 Indonesia offered independence and autonomy to Timor at a great cost – the Indonesian army and local militia’s massacred hundreds of thousands of Timorese and destroyed most of the country’s economic base. The building of Timor’s Coffee industry provides hope of economic growth for the recently devastated country. Timor’s excellent Arabica coffee beans are attracting international attention from gourmet coffee buyers and connoisseurs the world over.
